inMotion Indoor Car Show & Drift Event – Event Coverage and Photo Gallery

Amazing things happen when creative minds come together. NWMotiv.com and Evergreen Drift decided to end the automotive event season in the Pacific Northwest by hosting one of the most ambitious events the region has seen in years. On September 29, 2012 inMotion Car Show and Drift Event was held at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA.

This event consisted of drifting with a cash purse and a car show. What set this car show apart from previous shows at the same venue is that it was held inside of the brand new Evergreen Events Center.  Approximately 150 of the best cars in the region packed inside to show off their creations. After what happened at Forum Fest this year, it was nice to have certainty that the car show portion of the event would still go on if it rained.

Josh Mackey, the owner of NWMotiv.com, explained that the event developed from an idea that Kelly Hale and Evergreen Drift had. They wanted to hold an event to wrap up the season. “An indoor event is something that Seattle and the Northwest has been missing for 5 years and we wanted to bring that style of competition back,” Josh said.

Many of us in our 20’s and 30’s fondly remember the days of Hot Import Nights and large import car shows in the region. As Josh said, it’s been 5 years since the last large-scale indoor event. Hot Import Nights still travels around the United States, but they usually don’t organize shows in the Northwest. I'm glad to see that these types of events can continue and sponsors are willing to commit to help make them a success.

Josh also told us where the name inMotion came from. “While coming up with a concept for the name, several ideas were tossed around, but ultimately, our good friend John Morimoto of Team Menace came up with the name and it stuck. inMotion encompasses everything about our scene and really worked well and are looking forward to using it again,” he said.

When asked if this will become an annual event, Josh said: “Every event we do we go into having the anticipation for it to become an annual event. We're still recovering from inMotion, but next year is looking promising as everything went fairly smooth and has received high praises.”

We hope so… Scroll past the winners list to see all of our photos. Congratulations to all of the winners.

Our photographer/videographer TK Akiyama created this video of the drift and show portions of the event:

Matt created ImportMeet.com in 2011 after noticing a lack of media websites dedicated exclusively to import cars. Although he's employed as an engineer and has no formal training in journalism, his skills continue to develop as the editor for the site. He enjoys writing feature car articles, technical build/project articles, and organizing events. Matt drives a 2023 Honda Civic Type R and a 1990 LS-swapped Mazda RX-7.
