DriftCon Afterdark 2014 – In-Depth Summary of Event

DriftCon Afterdark is our most elaborate event to date. With many different things happening on and off the track, we figured we would create an in-depth summary for people who want to know more about a particular portion of the event.

Great 80 Car Show – SOLD OUT

Nearly all 80 of the spots in the car show are now full. All cars that have been accepted have passed our staff’s approval process to ensure that they were modified to some extent.

Great 80 Car Show Judging

All of our car shows in the past have been judged by the competitors. Each competitor voted in each category and the votes were tallied to determine the winners. For DriftCon Afterdark, we’re changing things up a bit.

Fully IM Judged / Fully Guest Judged

The following awards will be judged exclusively by IM staff or assigned guest judges. Each car will be considered but only the best will be fully judged on a specific judging sheet for each category. For example, Best Engine Bay will have its own special judging sheet. The other general awards in this group will be judged on the full car judging sheet.

  • Best Engine Bay
  • Best Interior
  • Best Exterior
  • Best Import (Asian)
  • Best Euro
  • Best Old School (1989 and older)
  • Best Street Mild
  • Best Street Wild
  • Best Race/Track
  • Best Stance (Judged by owner of StanceWars)
  • Best Lighting (Judged by VLEDS)

Partially Voted / Partially IM Judged

These awards will be judged with a hybrid system. Each competitor will vote for their favorite in each category and then only the top 3 cars in each category will be fully judged by IM staff.

  • Best of Show
  • Best Honda
  • Best Nissan
  • Best Infiniti
  • Best Subaru
  • Best Mazda
  • Best Mitsubishi
  • Best Toyota
  • Best Lexus

Fully Voted

  • People’s Choice (Facebook likes determine top 5 – competitors determine the winner)

VIP Paved Parking – $20 Online / $30 Day-of

We’re happy to have a large section of paved parking for spectators that want to be part of the event but don’t want to be judged or didn’t register for the Great 80 Car Show in time. This section is located in the same area that Formula Drift holds their car show. Each VIP spot includes a full access pass for the driver only – passengers will have to pay the $15 spectator fee during roll-in.

The VIP area will be the place to be once it gets dark as this section is right next to the DJ and all of the vendors/sponsors.

VIP Paved Parking Judging

We also have a few special awards that only cars in the VIP area are eligible for. These will be judged by guest judges assigned by IM staff.

  • Best Form
  • Best Function
  • ImportMeet.com Choice (Judged by ImportMeet.com staff)

Meet Gravel Parking – $15 Online / $20 Day-of

At the last DriftCon, the Meet parking was a huge hit. For the same price of admission into the event you are able to reserve a parking spot on the gravel part of the track (if you register beforehand).

We have made adjustments to track entry this time around and all cars will be entering the Meet parking on the track itself – no longer on the dirt road in the back. There is also no waiver to sign so entry will be very quick.

Note: Passengers will still have to pay for their spectator fee on entry ($15).

3/8 Tandem / Team Tandem Competition

The 3/8 Tandem and Team Tandem Competition will be held on the Reverse 3/8 layout (the same layout that was used at Round 5 of the Pro Am Competition). Cars will have to qualify to determine the brackets. If there are over 32 drivers in the 3/8 Tandem Competition, only the top 32 will advance to the main event.

For Team Tandem qualifying will determine the top 8 teams competing.

3/8 Tandem Payout
1st: $1000
2nd: $300
3rd: $150

Team Tandem Payout*
1st: $1000
2nd: $500

*Team Tandem payouts are determined by the number of teams competing. Example payout based on 10 teams competing.
