DriftCon 2014 – Official Event Coverage & Photo Gallery

DriftCon, a brand new ImportMeet.com event, was held at Evergreen Speedway for the first time on May 18, 2014. The event consisted of a car show, meet, Team Tandem Competition, and round 2 of the Evergreen Drift Pro Am series.

Planning for DriftCon started at the beginning of the year. We met with Evergreen early in the off-season and discussed potential layouts for the event. Every car show that has been held during a drifting event at Evergreen Speedway has been located in the side lot next to the grandstands. Our concept was to do things differently by placing the car show directly next to the track on brand new pavement. The reasoning for this was that it would allow spectators to stay in the car show area and not miss any of the action on track.

In addition, we decided to have “on-track meet parking” in the back area of track so that people could be a part of the action rather than being forced to park in the grass lot. We also invited a local RC drift club (Raincity Raji Kon) to set up an RC drift track in the middle of the car show.

For a first time event the turnout of spectators and car show/meet entries was better than we expected. We look forward to growing this event and making it even better in future years.

Matt created ImportMeet.com in 2011 after noticing a lack of media websites dedicated exclusively to import cars. Although he's employed as an engineer and has no formal training in journalism, his skills continue to develop as the editor for the site. He enjoys writing feature car articles, technical build/project articles, and organizing events. Matt drives a 2023 Honda Civic Type R and a 1990 LS-swapped Mazda RX-7.
