Team Tandem registration for DriftCon is now open!

Teams of three will battle for a large cash prize on the Evergreen Speedway 3/8ths track.

A maximum of 12 teams will be allowed to compete in the DriftCon Team Tandem Competition. This is a dynamic drifting event. The track layout will change based on which part of the competition it is. Teams will have to qualify in the top 8 to move on to the elimination part of the competition. Once in the top 8, teams will battle against each other (one after the other) to see which team can execute the best overall run. Teams will be judged on how closely they can follow the same line, proximity with each other, and style.

Coming up with a unique team name is encouraged. Team members are expected to visually coordinate with each other in some way.

Prize money will be determined by the number of teams competing.

Prize Payout Example:
1st: $1000
2nd: $500
3rd: $250

Note: Example shown above is based on 10 teams competing. The payout will increase or decrease based on the number of teams competing.

All cars must meet the following safety equipment requirements outlined by Evergreen Drift

The $300 team entry fee includes entry to the May 17th optional tandem practice event held the day before DriftCon.

Team Tandem Competition Format

The competition course will change as the competition progresses. The day will consist of three track layouts. The idea behind multiple layouts is to decrease any advantages and bring some variety to the show for spectators.

  • Standard 3/8ths w/o Hairpin – Qualifying
  • Infield “Wallride” Figure 8 – Top 8 Competition
  • Extended 3/8ths Figure 8 – Top 4 Competition & Finals

Standard 3/8ths w/o Hairpin – Qualifying:

This classic layout is what is most familiar to EVD drivers but without the hairpin; instead they will loop back toward the infield and finish as they cross the intersection. Qualifying battles will be held on this layout with normal clipping points / zones.

Infield “Wallride” Figure 8 – Top 8 Competition:

This layout is explicitly on the infield. Drivers start off at the end of the 5/8s bank by charging past the grandstands toward turn1 and initiate with a long slide into the infield and complete a full figure 8 exiting with a strong finish throttling out onto the 3/8ths bank.

Extended 3/8ths Figure 8 – Final 4 Competition:

The normal 3/8ths layout but instead of a hairpin, you loop back into the infield for a full figure 8 and then finish with the classic hairpin / wall-tap finish.

Competition Format:

Qualifying:

Each team together will make 1 pass on the Standard 3/8ths w/o Hairpin layout. Each run will earn them a qualifying score between 1 and 100.

Teams will then be arranged into a bracket. The top qualifiers will be paired up against the lowest qualifiers. There will be no teams excluded from the competition. (i.e. if we have 7 teams, we’ll run top 8 with top qualifier automatically moving on.)

Top 8:

Teams in each bracket will battle against each other for the best score. The top 8 battles will take place on the Infield “Wallride” Figure 8layout. Each bracket will compete against each other – with the higher ranked team going first. Each team will start with 100 points (each judge will have their own scoring sheet). Each judge will reduce the number of points from 100 as they notice mistakes on a run. The three scores will then be averaged to determine the team’s score. The higher scoring team will move on to the next round. If the averaged team scores are close enough, the judges will ask for a “One More Time” battle. Teams will be allowed to swap tires after a “One More Time” call if they desire.

Final 4 and Finals:

These battles will take place on the Extended 3/8ths Figure 8layout. Each bracket will compete against each other – with the higher ranked team going first. There will be an extra battle for third place. Scoring will be done the same as the Top 8 battles.

Judging / Points / Error Scoring

Team Tandem is not judged like a normal competition, you and your teammates are to mimic each other’s lines and style, and be as fluid as possible. Lead driver is responsible for laying down the best line possible and the follow cars are to mirror the Lead driver and keep in as close proximity and uniformity as you can. All teams start their runs with 100 points and receive deductions based on their performance.

  1. Passing is discouraged. Teams should stay in order from start to finish. In the event that a team member passes a fellow driver, the team will have points deducted.
  1. In the event that a driver straightens up or makes a severe correction, points will be deducted.
  1. In the event that a team member loses control or spins out/stops drifting and starts over, points will be deducted.
  1. In the event that a team loses a member and the team is down to 2 drivers, the team will automatically have 30 points deducted from their score overall.
  1. Other points can be taken away / or added depending on a judge’s discretion.

Note: Team Tandem qualifying does not start until the Pro Am competition is complete. This competition is open to Pro Am competitors as well.

Judges:

1. Afroslide – John
2. Kory Keezer
3. Scott Pham
