HyperFest 2013 – Photo and Event Coverage – West Virginia

Every year the “Automotive Amusement Park”, HyperFest, comes to Summit Point, West Virginia bringing automotive enthusiasts from all over the Mid Atlantic, and East Coast regions together for an action-packed weekend.

I’ve only missed HyperFest one out of my six years of being a resident of West Virginia, and each time there is something new and exciting compared to previous years.

HyperFest is an event that is broken up across the five tracks at Summit Point with activities going on simultaneously throughout the day starting at 8:25 in the morning, and ending well after the sun has set and the live music has been performed.

hyperfest-2013-article-01Activities (Saturday):

Car Show
USDrift PRO/AM
NASA Pro Road racing
Thunder Group: American Iron, Camaro-Mustang Challenge, Super Unlimited (anything goes)
Autobahn Group: German Touring Sports car Challenge, BMW Spec E30s & Spec 3s
Lightning Group: Honda Challenge, Spec Mazda Miatas
OG Racing HYPERDRIVES (drive your own car on track at top speeds with an instructor)
Rice Rice Challenge (build the best “ricer” you can in two-and-a-half hours with three of your friends)
24 Hours of LeMons
Exedy Rally Road Rides
Slide Along Drift Rides w/ Vaughn Gittin Jr. & Chris Forsberg
Daredevil Throwdown (hot pepper eating contest, human ring toss, and more)
Rollover Contest
Adrenaline Crew Extreme Stunt Riders
Go-Karting
Vendor Midway
Kids Games (huge inflatable’s, obstacle course, rock climbing wall)
NASA Race Awards & Prize Giveaway
Camping
Daisy Duke Contest
Live Music

hyperfest-2013-article-02Aside from everything going on one could literally spend the whole day admiring others’ vehicles parked all over the complex. Enthusiasts that travel from the West or far up North usually have a very noticeable flavor in their taste of modifications, and are fun to spot. Packs start coming in on Friday to set up camp and booths on the common grounds. Many don’t leave until all racing is done on Sunday.

hyperfest-2013-article-03Monster Energy Drink’s Vaughn Gittin Jr. was there this year to wake up anyone that grew tired. A fan favorite, Vaughn Gittin continues to attend the event and put on a show for the crowd. It’s always enjoyable to watch him rip up the courses in his Mustang.

hyperfest-2013-article-04In the future I hope the variety continues to increase. Variety can never be bad a thing, especially for a weekend at the track. In an atmosphere like HyperFest you’re prone to unraveling your appreciation for every make and model, across all spectrums and scenes. Boosted four cylinder import junkies, American V8 advocates, and loyal exotic owners grilling and drinking together for the simple joy of the machine . . . it’s a beautiful thing.

Whether you’re into beefy domestics or sleek static imports HyperFest caters to the masses and is always guaranteed to be a fun time. I encourage anyone to check it out in the years to come, regardless of where you’re from. Bring sunscreen.

Josh’s love for photography blossomed during his early years of high school where he learned the aesthetics of analogue photography, and found comfort in the dark room. Although he had a knack for computer science going into college, a decision was made to follow the path of journalism to better satisfy his urge to be a wordsmith. In order to compliment everything he adored, Josh majored in visual journalism and minored in professional writing & editing.

Great shots, Josh. I’d love to attend HyperFest someday. It looks like an epic event!
