2012 Seattle International Auto Show Coverage

This year I was able to attend the Seattle International Auto Show as media for Import Meet. The benefit of being media is that on the first day of the show, the organizers let you onto the floor before the general public. This gave me exclusive access to all of the cars a few hours before the doors opened.

Even though the Seattle Auto Show is all about vehicles, there were still companies at the show displaying how their products improve a consumer’s automotive experience. Microsoft was celebrating their 5 year anniversary of a partnership with Ford of their SYNC technology. SYNC allows smartphones and other devices to connect to cars via Bluetooth and be controlled with voice commands. While this may not sound revolutionary today, they were one of the first and still are one of the best integrations.

I don't see Bugatti Veyron's in the Northwest very often so I was happy to see one at the show. It was placed next to the Lotus Evora which is also pretty rare in the NW. Some cars were brought in from other states including 2 McClaren MP4-12C’s.

Fisker brought out their Karma which is an all-electric sports sedan. The salesman at the booth explained that they can get over 200 miles to a charge.

Subaru was showing off their brand new Subaru XV Crosstrek. It’s very similar to an Outback but it’s more of a crossover. They also had a very clean white BRZ on display. When I asked about a 2014 STi model of the BRZ, they claimed to have no information on it.

Just like SEMA, Acura had their ILX and Honda had their new Accord on display. I was hoping to see more of their concept cars at the show, but apparently Seattle isn’t the show in which they unveil them.

One of my favorite areas was the Scion booth. They did the best job about putting actual displays next the cars instead of just dealer stickers in the windows. Their primary vehicles were a couple iQ’s and an FR-S.

I had a great time at the show and look forward to next year. Did you go to the show this year? Leave a comment on what your favorite car was at the show.

Matt created ImportMeet.com in 2011 after noticing a lack of media websites dedicated exclusively to import cars. Although he's employed as an engineer and has no formal training in journalism, his skills continue to develop as the editor for the site. He enjoys writing feature car articles, technical build/project articles, and organizing events. Matt drives a 2023 Honda Civic Type R and a 1990 LS-swapped Mazda RX-7.
