Year End Summary – My Favorite Import Car Events of 2011

Import Meet launched in 2011 and it was our first year covering and hosting import car events. We thought we would take some time to look back at some of our favorite events of the year.

Golden Gardens – March 27, 2011 – Seattle, WA

As in previous years, Northwest Nissans' annual Golden Gardens meet was a wet one. Despite the rain, there were so many cars this year that by early morning it was difficult to find a spot to park. It was a great event and although it was centered around Nissans, many other types of car showed up. Next year NWN and NWMotiv are planning an event called NissanFest at Evergreen Speedway on March 25th that should be a nice replacement for Golden Gardens. Read our Golden Gardens coverage here.

Forum Fest – June 25, 2011 – Kent, WA

NOS Energy Drink and NWMotiv.com held their second Forum Fest event in June. They both did a great job organizing the car show, drifting, and drag racing portions at Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA. There were so many clean cars that it was difficult to see them all. We hope that they bring back this awesome event next year. Our goal for 2012 is to take the forum group car show award. Read our Forum Fest coverage here.

Mt. Baker Import Run – July 17, 2011 – Bellingham, WA

Prior to Import Meet, a small group of local friends planned an annual drive to Mt. Baker. This year ImportMeet.com and NOS Energy Drink sponsored the event by providing hot dogs and energy drinks at the top of the mountain. It was pouring down rain the entire day but over 60 cars joined us for the drive. This was our first official event and it went off without a hitch. If the weather would have cooperated, the turnout would have been even larger. We plan on making this an annual event so make sure your weekends are free in mid-July if you want to join us next year. Read our Mt. Baker Import Run coverage here.

Formula DRIFT Event 5: Throwdown – July 23, 2011 – Monroe, WA

This was our first time attending Formula DRIFT and it was EPIC! Import Meet was able to score some media passes and get up close and personal with the cars sliding sideways around Evergreen Speedway. Next year we would love to take a trip to Irwindale to cover the finals. Read our Formula DRIFT coverage here.

ImportMeet.com End of Summer Car Show – September 10, 2011 – Bellingham, WA

This was our first official car show and it was a hit. 61 cars entered and over $1000 went to the National MS Society. This was a huge import car show for Bellingham, and we plan on making it even bigger and better next year. Read our End of Summer Car Show coverage here.

2011 was an awesome first year for ImportMeet.com. We plan on making 2012 even better with even more events and a special competition that has yet to be announced. Thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers. We look forward to a great 2012.

Matt created ImportMeet.com in 2011 after noticing a lack of media websites dedicated exclusively to import cars. Although he's employed as an engineer and has no formal training in journalism, his skills continue to develop as the editor for the site. He enjoys writing feature car articles, technical build/project articles, and organizing events. Matt drives a 2023 Honda Civic Type R and a 1990 LS-swapped Mazda RX-7.
