1995 Honda Civic CX – The Boost Box – 2013 IMSCC Competitor

We are happy to announce that Guillaume Marceau will be a competitor in our Import Meet Street Car Competition. The IMSCC is an event that will compare ten import cars in multiple categories (drag racing, autocross, dyno, car show, etc.) in August 2013.

For notifications, join the Facebook event.

Guillaume Marceau has had at least one Honda DC, EG, DA or DB chassis in his life for the last 14 years. Being a diehard Honda enthusiast, most of his early builds were naturally aspirated. It wasn’t until he developed his skills in racing did he realize that the lack of power was his limiting factor. It was at this point he realized that he needed to take everything he learned employed as an Acura Certified Technician and introduce boost to the equation.

Guillaume has been building this Civic for nearly 6 years. The car started as a rolling shell that he picked up from his friend Kyle. Fortunately for him, it came with a NASA spec cage already installed and a 5 lug swap. These mods alone meant that it was the perfect platform to build on.imscc-2013-civic-article-01In the years leading up to owning the Civic, Guillaume had been steadily building a 2.0L B18C engine to be placed in his primary vehicle, an Integra Type R.  After experimenting with different turbo setups on various other Honda engines, he knew that the engine needed to be built to handle boost. The short block was upgraded with Golden Eagle sleeves, custom CP pistons, Eagle rods, and ACL race bearings. The head was improved with ITR cams, MFactory adjustable cam gears, Supertech valves and Portflow retainers and springs.

After purchasing the Civic shell, his plans changed and the 2.0L was installed in its engine bay. He then pieced together a turbo kit comprised of some of the best components he had used in the past. This included a Peakboost ramhorn exhaust manifold, Precision 6262 journal bearing T3 turbocharger and a TiAL 44 MVR wastegate.imscc-2013-civic-article-02Prior to finishing the turbo kit installation, Guillaume installed RC 1000cc injectors, an AEM fuel rail, and a Walbro 255 fuel pump to make sure that the engine was supplied with an adequate amount of fuel.

To help the engine breathe even easier, Guillaume installed a Skunk2 Pro Series intake manifold, Blox 68mm throttle body, and he port matched/ported the head himself.

High horsepower front wheel drive cars are notorious for having traction issues. To combat this, Guillaume installed an MFactory helical limited slip differential and Full Race traction bars. He also made sure to go with eCtune for his engine management so that he could have boost by gear. “I’ve found that boost by gear is easier than using my right foot for traction control. It has helped immensely with my acceleration out of corners and in a straight line. It’s nearly required when pushing this much power through a FWD drivetrain,” he explains.imscc-2013-civic-article-03One of Guillaume’s favorite mods is the custom front bumper. The intercooler cutout was done by his friend Ben. Rather than hacking the bumper apart, he tried to keep it as stock looking as possible while still allowing for the maximum airflow through the huge Toyota Supra intercooler. Guillaume finished off the bumper by adding custom carbon fiber diverters on each side to ensure that all of the air goes through the core rather than around it.imscc-2013-civic-article-04If Guillaume had to pick one word to describe the car it would be versatile. “I can drive the car to the grocery store, an autocross event, road race/HPDE, or take it down the 1320 and it does a fine job at any of them,” he says. Due to the lack of availability of E85 in his area, Guillaume decided to keep the car on 92 octane pump gas.

“The car has been purpose built around a specific compromise of strengths while using factory engineering philosophies and principles (where applicable) and full out competition ideals where appropriate,” Guillaume says.

Of all of the cars announced so far, he says he is most concerned about the R35 GT-R. “With 18 inch wheels and tires the car will have awesome grip and acceleration. GT-R’s represent Nissan’s best foot forward in the supercar arena and they did an amazing job engineering it. The RX-7, TT Supra, Evo and R34 GT-R are also a concern of mine.”

When asked why he thinks he will do well in the IMSCC, Guillaume responded with:

“I’ve been driving and tuning similar chassis cars for many years and I’m a capable driver with a well sorted and prepared car.”

Guillaume would like to thank:

Family and friends, Ben, Pat, Merrick, George, Blake, Marissa, Kyle, Rick, Steven, and everyone that trained him and taught him about cars, racing, building, and motorsports in general.

“I’d like to give a special thanks to R/T Ernie for fabricating some parts for me and for the motivation to be faster.”

He also wanted to note the following:
All engine machine work by T&D Machine.
Engine balanced by Perpetual Balance.
Engine and car assembled by Guillaume at 2020 Motorsports.
Car tuned by Dave Lee (LEED).

Matt created ImportMeet.com in 2011 after noticing a lack of media websites dedicated exclusively to import cars. Although he's employed as an engineer and has no formal training in journalism, his skills continue to develop as the editor for the site. He enjoys writing feature car articles, technical build/project articles, and organizing events. Matt drives a 2023 Honda Civic Type R and a 1990 LS-swapped Mazda RX-7.
