Sloshing sound from dashboard while turning SX4

Unread postby korma » April 4th, 2011, 8:26 pm

when turning left or right, I hear a weird sloshing combined with a brushing sound from the dashboard. It's worse when I make left turns at low speed. No sound when driving on the freeway and making gentle turns. I checked out the wheels, brakes ,chassis, steering and could not trace the source. This sound is driving me nuts! :x Pleeeze help! I posted this on other forums too. Thanks!

Is it when your A/C is on? A friend I work with had this issue and it was the A/C condenser that got leaves and dirt stuck in it. It's because the earlier SX4s didn't use a filter and the stuff is able to creep in from the outside. There is a drain tube on the bottom of the car that if you hook a vacuum up to, you can suck the junk out. Be sure and order a cabin filter soon after you fix it or the problem will most likely come back.

I talked to the guy at work and he gave me the link to the how-to that he found before we cleared his. You basically can take a shop vac and tape or attach a smaller diameter extension on and suck out the leaves/junk inside of the tube. After that, the water should drain out and your problem should stop. Below is an image of the drain tube you will be looking for. Good luck!

Sloshing sound from dashboard while turning SX4

Air pockets in the heatercore? Check coolant levels and see if you can bleed the system at all.

Plugged A/C drain causing condensation to stay in the box and slosh around?

Improper drainage of the windshield cowl and rain water is staying there?

Does it sound like you can hear the water directly, or is there some type of barrier (more than just the dash, does it sound like its in a jar or behind the firewall)?
