NissanFest 2013 – Event Coverage & Photo Gallery – Monroe, WA

One of my favorite events last year was NissanFest. It was the event that replaced Northwest Nissans’ annual Golden Gardens meet after it grew to the point that it was no longer manageable. This year, NWN took things to another level by adding autocross and expanding even further on their current activities.

Automotive Photography 101 – How to Take Drifting Photos – Part 1

Some people ask me this question: "What's your definition of a nice drifting photo?" I usually respond with: "A photo that captures the speed and intensity of the motorsport."

This can be accomplished in many ways but the most common way is with wheel blur and background tearing. To achieve this style of photo you will need to use the panning technique outlined below.

EVD 80: Mission Accomplished – Evergreen Speedway – Event Coverage

EVD 80 "Mission Accomplished" was held on August 26, 2012 at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington. Stakes were high at this event since this was the last round of the EVD local drift competition for 2012. Surprisingly, the tension amongst drivers seemed to be minimal. All of the competitors were out on the track squeezing in every minute of seat time possible for one reason – they love the sport.

Formula DRIFT 2012 Round 5: Throwdown – Event Coverage Part 2 – Drifting

In Part 1 of our Formula DRIFT Round 5 coverage, we posted photos from the car show and the pits. This post is all about the drifting.

Seattle is always an interesting stop on the Formula DRIFT circuit. Even though Round 5 is typically held in mid to late July, the weather is always unpredictable. On Friday it rained for half of the day making practice for both Pro-Am and the professional drifters limited. Although it didn't really clear off at all on Friday, the rain stopped by noon and the track workers were able to clear the track of any standing water.

America | An Interview with 2012 Formula DRIFT Competitor Mike Phillips

I recently had the chance to sit down with a professional Formula DRIFT driver by the name of Mike Phillips. He currently resides in the Seattle, WA area where he started his drifting career. Last year, Mike competed in the Pro Am drifting series at Evergreen Speedway where he placed 1st. This meant that he could compete professionally for Formula DRIFT.

This year, during practice at Long Beach for Round 1 of FD, he had an accident which took the car out of commission. Mike wasn't injured, but the car required extensive repairs. Many people would have given up after Long Beach and took the rest of the season to rebuild their car but Mike wasn't one of those people. He was determined to return this season and I'm happy to say he will be drifting at Evergreen Speedway this weekend for Round 5 of Formula Drift.

I'll let the rest of the interview shed some light on who Mike is and how he got started drifting.

ImportMeet.com: Can you tell us how old you are and how long you have been drifting for?

Mike Phillips: I'm almost 25 years old and I've been drifting for six and a half years. I'm currently in my first season as a professional drifter and I participated in two seasons of Pro Am before.
